Can You Imagine Our Historical Quotes?

I thought that it might be fun to coin some of the quotes that our era might provide as humor for future generations. However, there may be absolutely nothing to laugh about if the present example of leadership continues.

ACTUAL QUOTES FROM HISTORY

"I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are it's going to be impossible to buy a weeks groceries for $20."

"Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long when $5,000 will only buy a used one."

"If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous."

"Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging dime just to mail a letter?"

"The Government wants to get its hands on everything. Pretty soon it's going to be impossible to run a family business or farm."

"If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store."

"When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 50 cents a gallon. Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage."

"Kids today are impossible. Those duck tail hair cuts make impossible to stay groomed. Next thing you know, boys will be wearing their hair as long as the girls."

"Also, their music drives me wild. This 'Rock Around The Clock' thing is nothing but racket."

"I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying 'damn' in 'Gone With The Wind,' it seems every movie has a 'hell' or'damn in it."

"Also, it won't be long until couples are sleeping in the same bed in the movies. What is this world coming to?"

"Marilyn Monroe is now showing her bra and panties, so apparently there are no standards anymore."

"Pretty soon you won't be able to buy a good 10 cent cigar."

"I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas."

"Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the president."

"Do you suppose television will ever reach our part of the country?"

"I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now."

Now I feel really old because I can remember when you could buy gallon of gas or two loaves of bread for a quarter! Matter of fact, I may have authored a few of your quotes!

Here's one for today: Pretty soon you won't be able to buy a $10 box of cereal!

Oh me! That has too much of the truth in it!

Yeah funny. We're going to be laughing at things we're saying now... in twenty years or so!
comment by spicybitch on Sept 25, 2008 8:20 AM ()
I'll have to leave the laughs for the next generations since I probably don't have 20 years left in me. Or, I may be here but without a clue of my surroundings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to adore my IBM. I thought it was the greatest typewriter going.

Before I finished by degree, I would for the jr. college as a secretary. There I had my first experience with an IBM with a ball. I kept trying to send the carriage back at the end of a line!

If you were fortunate enough to hunt, there was meat in that ketchup soup!

"I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are it's going to be impossible to buy a weeks groceries for $20."

I think this can be done by eating Ramen noodles for every meal and free ketchup packets,

My daughter and grandson lived on Ramen noodles! I wonder if WalMart's little diner would object about the missing ketchup packets???

I have read your comments of the hardships that your family endured but tempered with the abundant love that you all shared. You were very fortunate in that way. I love the part about your phone!

When is a grade/high school teacher going to get $75,000 a year?
comment by stiva on Sept 24, 2008 12:01 PM ()
I had a board member on time that stated he felt that $20,000 was obscene for a teacher! He is a vet, but I don't take my animals to him nor did he stay on the board for very long. ""Loud Clapping"
