  Sleepless in Southern Illinois

...but without all of the Romance of Seattle!

All this week, I have been unable to sleep. I have no idea what the problem is. Hubby says that I must be suffering from a guilty conscience, but I cannot think of a thing, of major importance, that should cause this much guilt. I go to bed but toss and find no solace there. My muscles ache and twitch, and pills do not help to relieve the discomfort. I do all of my daily chores, driving myself to get the work done that I have written on my to do list. You know how anal I am with my crazy lists; I simply love marking off the items as I do them. This morning found me doing laundry at 2 am. It is now 7, the laundry is finished, I have exercised for over an hour with weights, have read several posts that I missed yesterday, and am now writing about my woes.

There is one good thing about rising early--or should I say--staying up. I do so enjoy the progression of the sunrises. This morning the sky was adorned with beautiful shades of rose, pink, blues and soft grays. The woods in front of my house was partially covered with a haze that reminded of a luminous fence keeping all critters at bay. As morning pulled back her curtains(using a beautiful phrase from one of my friends), A dusty haze moved gently across the pond below my house. I thought of the dust bunnies that we many times might find in our own curtains. I guess that Mother Nature has her own that she must clean as we do.

I hope this finds all of you well and ready to have a wonderful Friday--the weekend cometh!

After several months of restless or no sleep, I'm finally getting better. I'm still not back to getting a full night's rest... but it is better than it was. I think it is stress. Around here it is the economy or lack of it on the ranch.

Angie... I'm all out of breath scrolling down so far! I don't sleep well either. It could br stress... or something else.

Well sweetie, I have been up since 2am again--It seems only a couple of hours of sleep are necessary right now for this old body!

It's now 12:37 AM for me here in Hawaii...I noticed you were online an hour ago...another sleepless night? I hope you are able to get some sleep soon.

What a bummer. I do, however, enjoy my alone time--the animals even sleep while I piddle!!!!!!!!!!

Books may not put you to sleep, but they help people to shift gears.
comment by stiva on Sept 26, 2008 4:06 PM ()
Well, I need my gears shifted--up at 2 again this early morning--another sunrise to watch if the rains stay away another day.

I don't sleep well either (fibromyalgia fact of life) so I'm glad you share my love of sunrises and the colorful awakening lights dancing on the horizon. Something I treasure, too....

I have learned that naps are essential, too....

Nothing is better than to sit on the porch with my cup of coffee and watch the earth awaken from her slumber.

ooo sunrise

Sunrises and sunsets--the things poems are made of. A time of promise and one of reflection.

Off the "Subject", but I was reading (bits and pieces) of your blog. What kind of "Horses" do you have? When I was a kid, I had "Arabians" High strung, but "beautiful" creatures. I owned a few for maybe 10 years. Finally sold them to mom... bought some motorcycles.. (they eat less). Anyway, when I think back... it was a fun time in my life.

Being serious here. I "Would" buy a scooter. I know my "look" is more "BIKER", but I wouldn't have a problem riding those. All considered, gas mileage and such... they are a good deal. 100+ MPG works for me I was looking at some in the mall (last week).. I want one!!

We have Tennessee Walkers, wonderful trail horses with such a comfortable running walk. Other horses must canter to keep up with them. I think that I am going to go to a scooter! I think they get 100 miles to a gallon of gas, and I think that is about what the tank holds, a gallon. I need to find a way to shelter myself from the elements, however. Any suggestions?

Hey Angie, I never noticed where you live before... I went to SIUC and grew up in the little town of Mt.C. about 100 miles from you.
Have you ever tried Melatonin? You can take it safely for about a week at a time and it's a natural thing your body usually produces on its own.

My school also--At first I was confused and thought of Carmi where the Baptist Children's home is. I don't think that I have ever been to your home town. We were practically neighbors! How about that!

Enjoyable novels. Certainly NOT the news.

I am such an avid reader that books rarely put me to sleep--except maybe a textbook! And here I am CNN tonight and the debates, another sleepless night!
reply by angiedw on Sept 26, 2008 3:55 PM ()
You make me feel guilty - a lazy bum who can sleep at anytime even with coffee. This morning we slept in until 9 and that is the norm these days. I kind of miss sunrises though after 45 years of work and up at 6 each day
comment by baseeker on Sept 26, 2008 9:50 AM ()
Living on a farm and being my mom's daughter, I can't remember ever sleeping until 9. I have never used an alarm clock in my life. I have a built in one, my mom's voice ringing in my head! Old habits are very difficult to break.
reply by angiedw on Sept 26, 2008 3:57 PM ()
I love sunrises too but I'd rather be sleeping.
comment by nittineedles on Sept 26, 2008 9:15 AM ()
Maybe tonight will bring sweet dreams!
reply by angiedw on Sept 26, 2008 9:18 AM ()
Hope you can get some shut eye today. I usually read to put myself to sleep
comment by meranda on Sept 26, 2008 8:24 AM ()
Nothing has been working of late. Of course, I love mysteries, and the excitement of the book is not for bring sleep.
reply by angiedw on Sept 26, 2008 9:20 AM ()
ah sunrise...
I hope you can take the day to nap nap nap!
comment by kristilyn3 on Sept 26, 2008 6:45 AM ()
Surely, I will collapse soon. A nap would be wonderful!
reply by angiedw on Sept 26, 2008 9:21 AM ()
What do you in the evening for sleep maintenance? To shift from the concerns of the day to settled for the night. Read? I guess it's not working this week though
comment by stiva on Sept 26, 2008 6:18 AM ()
I read, watch CNN, and do laundry usually. But, as you say, nothing is working! Maybe CNN and the economy are not favorable for a good night's sleep!
reply by angiedw on Sept 26, 2008 9:23 AM ()
Give in and take a sleeping pill. I have trouble sleeping too and know you feel so much better when you have a good and restful night.
comment by elderjane on Sept 26, 2008 6:01 AM ()
What kind would you recommend? I have never taken sleeping pills. Can I buy them over the counter or do I need a prescription?
reply by angiedw on Sept 26, 2008 9:25 AM ()
do you have that restless leg syndrome? I have had it a couple times and there is no sleeping when you feel like that. I hope you can get some rest today angie! now that your housework is done.
comment by elkhound on Sept 26, 2008 5:52 AM ()
I thought about that last night and wondered the same. I have noticed ads recently for medication. If I continue to have this problem, I will talk to my dr. about it. Eventually, I will have to grab some zzzzzzzzzzz's!You are too funny about my housework!
