  The Whores of Golf

A whore is someone who sells her body for money. We saw the whores of golf on display this past weekend at the U. S. Open.
They use their bodies as billboards for commercial advertisement. The hats, the shirts, they are like Nascar vehicles plastered with the logos and names of the companies that have contributed to the player’s participation. Instead of being streetwalkers, these guys are course walkers. But the difference, in terms of commercial substance, is negligible. At least the street whores charge reasonable prices. I’ll bet these golfers are banking sizable chunks of change for allowing their bodies to be used as business sign boards.
Golf is supposed to be a gentleman’s game but this commercialization of the sport cheapens it. If an NFL player showed up to play wearing, say, a sporting goods company’s logo on his helmet, he’d be tossed and fined and possibly suspended. The other major professional sports similarly ban such crass commercialism. If the players want to enter into private contracts with companies to shill their goods off the field, that’s something else again.
The whores of golf ought to limit their play time to the logo on their golf bag, clubs, and balls. They can certainly afford to buy shirts and hats that aren’t emblazoned with their sponsor’s company symbols.
At least Tiger Woods is a little too classy to wear a blinking neon Nike logo on his back. The extra weight might hurt his short game.

It's the same in professional bowling. I bet the players get more advertising money if they get to the finals so the logos are seen on TV. Mr. Tbend's morals are not in danger, though, because he never makes it to the finals or is good enough to be televised. I know you're glad to know that.

My dear! The idea of the NFL being against crass commercialism makes me laugh! They are all simply barring competing ads from their turf.

Our pocket or no pocket, eh?

Interesting comparison of Nascar and Golf. Both "sports" are in financial trouble and it will be interesting which one falls first from the lucrative money that the TV Networks throw their way.

I use the street jargon, "Hoes," to avoid prosecution.I do agree. The hat I wear is a wide brim straw hat with a simple red band. No "Titliest," "Nike," or "KPMG" written all over it. Maybe I'm missing out, but then there are no TV crews out where I play.

Sure, let them put a logo on their balls, show it to the galley and you would be the first to put them in jail!!! Okay, okay, I know that was tacky but I couldn't resist!

It's easy to be corrupted when people are handing you money for doing nothing.

Even as a kid, I had to work for whatever I got, including my allowance.
