This weekend I delved back into the turbulent world of ancient rome with the popular HBO series, Rome. It picks up right where the first season ends off. Julius Caesar's corpse is still lying in the Senate, and the whole city and our favorite characters are seeing everything they know fall into chaos. The Republic falls into chaos as its recently dubbed dictator is now dead. A number of potential successors are circling as others focus on seeking vengence for the betrayal. The Julii family is on the edge of being totally destroyed.

All of the characters return, allowing the viewers to see what happens between the fall fo Julius Caesar and the later accession of Octavian to the throne as Rome's first emperor. Along the way, we get to see Egypt, the battle between Octavian and Marcus Antony, and the crushing of Brutus for his betrayal.

This season is just as good as the first season. Actually, I enjoyed them so much, I just orderd the two of them online so I will be able to watch them again. A woman who volunteers at the library said she thought it was just as good as The Tudors, just a different time period. I will get a chance to check that series out later since I have it on hold at work. I would warn anyone who wants to watch this that it is very graphic when it comes to sex and violence, but it is quite realistic to the period and what it must have been like to live at that time. I think I mentioned in the review I did for the last season, one of the great things about the show is that it doesn't just focus on history's greats. Two of the main characters are soldiers in the Roman army, allowing us to get a glimpse into the more "everyday" life of those not of the nobility.

I woudl definitely recommend this one.
