Lion Brand is an American company that manufactures yarn. Very expensive, mainly acrylic yarn. Thanks but no thanks. If I'm going to spend a fortune on yarn it will be luxury, natural fibres such as Merino wool, Alpaca, Silk and Linen. Today's newsletter from Lion Brand was the straw that broke this camel's back. They have announced a new product. It is described as "this 100% undyed wool roving yarn, is spun in the USA" Maybe someone should tell the Lion Brand people that roving is unspun fibre. It is fibre before it has been spun into yarn therefore, "roving yarn" is a bit of an oxymoron. Please note in the photo above, the spun yarn is on the left while the unspun roving is on the right. In addition, most of their free patterns are amateurish if not downright ugly and/or useless items. Their Lola cartoons, by Todd Clark, however are amusing.

I don't even like the Lola cartoons, but I haven't looked at very many of them. I used to get their emailed newsletter, but not lately, and don't miss it. I agree with you about the Lion Brand products, not much there that I want, and too pricey for what you get.
I'll have to take your word for it, since I know zilch about yarns.
At the military museum display I visited today at Spruce Meadows, I saw a knit doll that the mother of a solider would knit for the children in war zones. Both mother and son are now deceased, but the pattern is available free, and is still being knit for those children. It's called the Izzy doll. Have you heard of that? I thought is was very neat, and the doll is simple, but really sweet in that rustic way.
You should write a knitting column for the features section of your local newspaper. Tell them I said so.
Hear, hear. It´s the whole Vanna persona, I think. They think it ups the quality.
