I have been working on the gown but I ended up with a triangle piece of knitting with the feathers and fans not lining up at all. The only thing I could find was that the k2tog x3 at the beginning at end of each pattern row was decreasing the number of stitches. No one else mentioned this so there must be something ( probably very basic )I am just not understanding. Any hints or ideas what I am doing wrong?

Well on my way with my second attempt and everything is going great.

no, I wasn't ending up with enough stitches for the full pattern repeat before the last 6 stiches, I must of messed up one or more of the pattern repeats somewhere along the line. the first two times through the pattern row everything was even, now that I think about it, I think that when I knitted across all the rows and then came to the first pattern row after that is when I started haveing troubles, I'll start over. Luckily I have until the end of September to get it done.

I'm sorry but I don't know what you could be doing wrong. Are you starting with the correct # of stitches? Just before the (k2tog) 3 times at the end of the row you should be working a (yo, k1) 6 times. I hope you can figure it out.

Love this pattern! Wondering if you have it for say a size 6 to 9 month?? My friends baby will be closer to 6 months when she is baptized and I'm afraid this size is too small. OR do you know how I can increase it to make it closer to the 6 months size?
comment by karinb35 on Feb 11, 2009 8:18 AM ()
For a 6 month old You could increase your needle sizes to 3 3/4mm / 5 US and 4 1/2mm / 7 US. Also, the dress is adjustable by tightening or loosening the ribbon in the yoke.
For a 9 month old I'd use a light sport weight yarn with the same needles as for the 6 month old.

Marg, Would you be willing to make a diagram for the bonnet also? Especially the neck band and how the lace is threaded through.

I have finished the gown and am trying to post it, so you can see it, but I am having trouble uploading onto greasy.

Thank you!

Hi Marge~

Am I going to join the gown and start knitting in the round after I knit 2 inches and join all 3 sections w/the yarn from ball 1?

Also, why do I knit the first 2 inches in 3 separate sections? Just curious.
Thank you,
trishart

I apologize if this is a duplicate

Marge I have started the gown and am just beginning on the skirt do I knit all 3 sections with their own ball for 2" BEFORE I join them all together with the first ball of yarn? I only increase the middle row the one time on the 1st row to 144 correct? I chose bamboo.
Thank you for your help,
trisha

please let me know if I am posting these questions in the wrong place.
comment by trishart on Feb 1, 2009 7:37 PM ()
Oh yeah, good question. Bamboo yarn and addi - turbo lace needles. The needles are supposed to be less likely to snag and the tips are more pointy then regular needles.
reply by trishart on Feb 1, 2009 8:07 PM ()
Yes. Correct. You are doing fine. Bamboo what; needles or yarn?
reply by nittineedles on Feb 1, 2009 8:00 PM ()
Do you recommend straight needles, because I was thinking of using circular? What are your thoughts
comment by trishart on Jan 28, 2009 8:06 PM ()
I only used straight needles because my stitch marker kept falling off the circular needle.

Thanks Marg for the info!! I will keep you posted on my progress!
I would like to find a really fine silk yarn?? Can't wait to get started. This is the first time I have ever been on a blog site, obviously

I started knitting this about a week ago for my friend who is due to have her baby in March I thought it was going to be much harder to knit and I am totally surprised how easy the pattern is to follow I will post a picture for you to see when its finished and as soon as I know how to work this site I will start adding some of my patterns for you all to enjoy.

Cool! Another knit designer and Star Trek fan too. You have no idea how excited I am to see your patterns. If you have any questions about Greasy.com just ask me and if you have any problems with Greasy.com let Eddie (owner) know.
I'm so glad you're enjoying the pattern. So many just read it and then bombard me with questions. I want to tell them, "Just start knitting and follow the instructions. It's easy."

A little off subject, but I thought you might care. I finally found dpn's in Guadalajara. The sizes were in increments of 2mm. So I bought the 4's and the 6's. Already started a sock, but wow, that's hard! I'm still not sure I got it right, but I'm working on it. Practice makes Perfect, right?

BTW, Beautiful Pattern. I remember seeing it.
comment by jerms on Apr 26, 2008 12:01 PM ()
No, I've knitted a few things, not many. I'm better at crochet, but wanted to get better at this. The sock pattern I'm using calls for three needles. I'll send you the link. Better yet, I'll just email you the pattern. You can tell me what you think about it if you have time. The yarn is Red Heart Kids Variegated Crayon. Very fun stuff. It's a patter for children's socks.
reply by jerms on Apr 26, 2008 12:40 PM ()
New needles!
Does you sock take four needles or two? I've always found the four double pointed needles to be awkward but I love wearing the socks they make. What colour is the yarn? Is this the first time you have tried knitting? Details! I need details!
