Tiny Toque
aka Newborn-Plus Canadian Baby Hat

Fold up the cuff and this little toque will fit an average newborn baby's head. As baby's noggin grows unfold the cuff. The hat will stretch width-wise and should continue to fit for a few more months.

MATERIALS: 1 50g/1.75 oz ball soft sport weight yarn
1 pair 3.75mm/5 US needles
1 darning needle

Size: Newborn plus

TENSION: 22 sts & 30 rows with 4mm/6 US needles in stocking stitch = 10 cm/4 inches

Cast on 80 stitches.
Rib (K2, P2) every row for 18cm/7 inches.
Decrease as follows:
Row 1: K2tog, p2tog to end of row.
Row 2: K1, p1 to end of row.
Row 3: K2tog to end of row.
Row 4: Purl to end of row.
Row 5: K2tog to end of row.
Leaving a 12 inch tail, cut yarn. Thread darning needle with tail and slip the remaining 10 stitches onto the tail. Pull tight and sew seam.

Optional: Make a pom-pom and sew to top of hat.
