  Who's Bigger? Elvis or Mj?

The
debates have begun.  Though both men had tremendous influence on the
culture, who will be bigger in death?  Elvis or Michael Jackson  and
why do you think so?

To give you a little help, Elvis released 26 singles that went to Number One; Jackson released 13.

Elvis died at 42; Jackson died at 50.  Both men began their careers at close to the same age.

Okay!  Cast your votes!!  Don't forget to say "Why"!

Actually Elvis' career didn't really start until he was around 18. Michael Jackson was singing with his older brothers when he was nine(although was made to lie about his age and say he was 5.) His solo career was when he was in his early 20s. As far as impact goes, tough to say. They were both self-proclaimed kings(King of Rock-n-roll for Elvis even though Johnny Cash was technically the winner of that particular contest in the 50s. MJ was the self-proclaimed King of Pop.)MJ was Elvis' son-in-law for a brief period(being married to Lisa Marie Presley.) Elvis made more movies(MJ's only real role was in The Wiz. He had a cameo in Men In Black 2.) Elvis never made it to MTV and MJ revolutionized it. Both died too young. We'll never know who had the greatest impact because it's too close to call. Personally, I'm an Elvis fan 100%.

"Thriller" sold 109 million copies alone, more than twice as much as any other album in history. So based on sheer volume of sales, I would say Michael Jackson will be bigger in death. And based on the time difference between the two, Michael had much more media coverage, making him that much more popular. I was never a "fan" but he did put out some descent music.

He had the advantage of the media over Elvis. I think his legacy will always be marred by his personal bizarre lifestyle, however.

I loved Elvis from the time I first saw him on the Ed Sullivan show. I have loads of his music and I thought he was the sexiest man in the world. M. J. has always left me cold but then I am 80 years old and pop is not my thing.

Good question - tough call. I was too young to be emotional over Elvis' death, only in junior high but I recall my music teacher was very distraught over it and we all talked about her because of it. However, as an adult, I can understand it a little. I was very upset about MJ, the same way I was upset about Princess Diana's death though I never idolized wither one of them. For both, I was upset that the Earth had lost a truly great soul; the kind of soul that moves and changes the world through their acts.

I think we all get upset over people of importance who die too young. With entertainers, they are part of our transistion to adults. We associate their music with significant events in our life. Diana's death affected me the most of the three because of her two children as well as the truly good humanitarian work she did. I have to pick Elvis because that was my generation just as MJ was yours.

My criteria: How many pitches does each have? How fast is their fastball. Etc. Etc.

Elvis was built like a slugger in his younger years; Michael was built like a skateboarder.

I'd have to go with Elvis as the better ball player.
