  Keypad 20090215

Ever since we bought our new cell phones, which was months ago, I have wondered about the keypad backlight feature. The there a setting for how long the keypad backlight stays on. I have it on "always". To me that means always, as in, it should always be on when flipped open, but it doesn't. It turns off once I place a call. Because it's winter and dark and dreary much of the time, when I'm finished with the call, I have to grope around trying to find the "end" key in the dark. In speakerphone mode, the phone doesn't hang up if the flip is closed, only when the "end" key is pressed. The backlight is useful.

While the girls were roaming the pet store yesterday, I dropped into the cell phone store and asked. After explaining what setting I was trying adjust several times, the last guy asked, "Why would you want it on? The phone is by your ear." I explained the situation and the need for speakerphone, but he said, "That's the way it works". Thanks.

Ugh. I'll have to check that on the next phone.

It's not what the consumer wants that's important, it's what easiest for the manufacturer to provide.

And every phone is so different. I'm like my dad, I just keep getting the same one every time so it's similar to the last year's model. LOL

How do you keep getting the same one? They change them every year

I never really thought about that before but I can totally see your point!

We should all complain to the phone companies that we NEED that feature. That's the ticket

Some places let you try it out and give you thirty days to see
if you liked it or not.Ask them the next time.

I don't remember when I even noticed that it didn't work like I wanted it to.

Too bad you can't try it out and, like a mattress, return it if you don't like it.

True.

It's so hard to know if something is going to work for you until you own one and find it is missing some feature you need. We are trying to decide what cell phones to buy, and it's hard to know if they don't have certain features, or the description just doesn't mention them.

Yeah, it's not something I thought about until I was using it and notice that it didn't work the way I would like.
