  Lacis 20081108

Dolly needed to go to Lacis, the lace store and museum, in Berkeley today.

The the lower deck of the Bay Bridge was moving okay and the weather was dreary, but not raining.

We went into the museum area for a few minutes, but mostly we walked around the store. They sell lace, lace-making supplies, sewing supplies, crochet hooks, and embroidery thread, etc. Behind the mannequins in this picture are displays of different lace designs, including animals.

Some of the lace animals.

The weather was drizzly on the way back on the Bay Bridge. I was hoping to get a few pictures of the City in the background but the bridge can hardly be seen.

I suppose it's considered a specialty sewing shop.

The docent was telling us about the development of the different styles. The really hard work is all stitched. Later stitched "tapes" were machine produced. Those can then be stitched together and that cuts down on the manual work.

Oh WOW! I didn't even know there was such a thing as a lace store. I would love to have a look around there.

Though they didn't have much for knitting, you were the main reason I took the pictures in the store, because of the similarity.

I took a lace making class but didn't do very well. Should have made my husband go on the second day so the money wouldn't be wasted. That's what I did for chair caning; it was obvious after the first night that I was hopeless, so he came the second night and learned how so when I want to do it, he can supervise.

That's good that he picks up these things easily. He's your backup.
