  Trash Furniture 20090114

On Fri evening I looked behind our back fence to see how the weeds were growing to determine whether it was time to cut them. I saw an old entertainment center / bookcase behind the fence next to the fence gate to the apartment building next door. Argh. To Dolly and me, the piece of crap is from one of THOSE people: 1) there has been some moving in and out lately and 2) it was adjacent to the gate. The piece of furniture is particle board and has been out there a few weeks, at least. I don't go back there much.

Sat we moved the thing to the other side of the gate, so I could cut the weeds. The other side of the gate is the building's set of garages, which no one parks in because they are filled with the renter's crap / stuff.

Sun, the thing was back behind our fence.

We moved it back in front of the garage door.

Mon evening, the thing was back behind our fence.

We moved it back in front of the garage door.

Later, the owner of the building was showing the front unit to a potential renter. We weren't going to bother him with it, but as long as he was there...

I explained the situation to him. His first response: "How do you know it's one of my renters? It could be from anyone in the county."

Tues evening, the thing was back behind our fence. Dolly and I got out some tools and went back there and started in on it, picking out the trash in it and tearing it apart. During that process, one of the new neighbors came out (a couple), watched us for a few seconds, started talking in Spanish to each other, then moved onto a car. They talked a bit more, then the woman came over and asked us to be careful with her vehicle. The piece of crap was on the sidewalk back there and her SUV was parked adjacent to it at the curb. I was sooo ready to yell at her and use some interesting words, but with an undercurrent of rage in my tone, told her, "We not messing with your vehicle!" They drove away. As far as we're concerned that piece of crap was hers: 1) they recently moved in and 2) someone in a pickup brought over an entertainment center / bookcase to them over the weekend. Once we were back inside, I told Dolly that I almost lost it out there. She said that she had the same issue, but she kept quiet.

We don't know if the thing was theirs, so can't blame them and don't want to provide a reason for them to harbor animosity toward us if "we hates it, we hates it forever".

The woman and her daughter (?) who moved into the front unit a few months ago brought a whole bunch of crap with them. There are a number of boxes, plastic storage bins, and other stuff out front inside the building's picket fence. That, combined with the patchwork primer and rotting wood all over the building, makes a lovely scene. No, it still hasn't been repaired or painted. They also have a cat that poops in our front yard and sleeps on my car (I've seen it a few times). Argh.

This is the same building that I fixed their gate a few months ago.

As the quality of the building goes down, so does the quality of the renters.

Sounds really frustrating. I think your last sentence summed it up!

Someone just moved out of the building on the other side of us. The owners there have been working on that apartment for the last two days getting it ready for the next people. They have a nice 6-unit building, maintain it, and get good renters.

The guy that owns the dump just cycles the next ones in the next day.

I think I would have come undone on them. Kudos to you for not.

I knew it would only get back at us if I lashed out.

Sorry to hear, its always difficult dealing with things like this. Its so annoying. Good luck with it!

My wife would like to move away from renters, but that means leaving the area and getting new jobs. Not a simple matter.

doesn't cover it. That was *really* funny.

I've seen a lot of examples of that in my lifetime. Maybe you should hang a fake security camera over your side of the fence and put up a sign that the area is under surveillance. LOL

Interesting idea.

Nah...that's going in the wrong direction.

You'll feel better. Really. Just go ahead and say, "MOVE YOUR F*CKIN PIECE OF SH*T F*CKIN GARBAGE!"

Why do you think I'm so f*cking mellow?

Nope.

That sounds so frustrating. You are right about the trend in quality of the tenents in the situation.

Yeah. The building continues to go downhill over the years.

Oh come on, Stiva...say sh*t instead of crap. Please? Please?

Other than the principle of the issue, why does it bother you so much? Does the "crap" interfere with your stuff? I think I'm missing something.

Maybe you should move.

How about "old furniture"?
reply by stiva on Jan 14, 2009 9:08 AM ()
The trash bothers me. Out behind the fence it has the tendency to multiply. Out in front, everything should be clean and neat, like cleaning for guests.

Move. Ha. We can't afford to move within the Bay Area. Housing costs are excessive here, then that is coupled with high property taxes.

That is truly UNFORTUNATE!! and annoying... I am glad you kept your cool cuz that would have had me ready to bite too...
I am glad you guys got rid of it though...

That building has a big trash container, but, of course, it's full.
reply by stiva on Jan 14, 2009 9:05 AM ()
Yeah, snapping at them wouldn't help. It's not gone yet. We don't have the trash can space to get rid of it all at once. It will probably take three weeks to send off all the pieces in the trash can.
