  To Market, to Market

Well, once again driving to town today so I'll stop at the grocery store and get some ribs for the holiday. I love ribs, Mr. Troutbend not so much, but he's in Las Vegas for the bowling tournaments. He emailed that he's got jitters about it, which he usually doesn't admit to. I told him to listen to the bowling hypnosis CD I got on eBay for him a few years ago. He probably will do that if he can find it.

It's been cooler so far this summer in Las Vegas, just under 100 degrees. There have been a lot of days when it was hotter in Oklahoma City, and they have humidity to go with it. Well, Mr. Troutbend pulls into town and now it's going to be 108 today.

This morning I used surveyor's tape to mark the trees in the yard in case the sprayers show up. We have pine beetle problems in this area, getting worse, and aphids on the spruces. There is also a spruce bud beetle they spray for. We lost a pine tree last year, and another died over the winter, both in our back yard, and there is a small cluster of dead ones up the side stream that we will have to deal with by cutting them down and burning the wood.

Two nights in a row I've had dreams set in airports, the main theme of which seemed to be frustration with some of the glitches of air travel, but nothing insurmountable.

In one of them I was standing in line with the Nordic Track (yep, those large exercise machines that are like skiing) that my husband insisted I take on this airplane trip. The airline people were figuring out how to get it onto the plane - nobody gave me any grief about it, but I thought the other passengers were probably wondering why I couldn't have gotten along without it for a couple of days.

Here's what one of the online dream dictionaries says about it:

Airport

"To see an airport in your dream, symbolizes birth (arrivals) and death (departures). If the airport is busy, then it signifies the desire for freedom, high ideals, ambition, and hopes. It is an indication that you are approaching a new departure in your life. Some new idea is taking off or is ready to take off. You may be experiencing a new relationship, new career path or new adventure. "

Now, I don't think dreams are predictive, I think they are windows into our subconscious worries. So it doesn't mean someone is going to die, it means I'm worried someone is going to die. Well, a phone call will answer that question - still breathing? Everything okay? Great! and that'll be the end of that.

I have a big list of things to do today, so better get started.

I don't know if it shows up very well, but this is a very large vein of mica in pink granite.

Well, since you say so, now I'll have to do it.

Stick ribs in pan, set temp, set time, roast. End of recipe. Love the rock picture. Good luck to Mr. T. Agree with you about dreams -- they are insights into your own mind, nothing predictive.

That's pretty much it. I made a really good barbecue sauce using Mesquite flavor Liquid Smoke.

Good luck to Mr. TB in his tournament!
I'm working on my grocery list myself just now. What kind of ribs are you buying? How do you like to prepare them? Are you a dry rub fan?
Awesome rock photo!

Thanks for the good luck wishes. Sometimes he gets to the finals in this particular tournament, but I'm not holding my breath. At least the time he spends bowling he's not gambling.

I usually buy the country style ribs with all the meat on them, but when it's just me and myself, I like to get the bonier ribs, either beef or pork and put lots of gloppy sauce. I seldom order them in a restaurant because I don't want people to see me wiping the sauce off my nose and so on. I've never done a serious job of cooking with a dry rub, but I've got some hickory chips and am thinking of trying it with slow cooking in the Weber grill. We have an electric smoker that a former tenant left here, but have never used it. I should read up on it, because I love hickory smoked chicken at the barbecue place.

The dark matrix igneous rock between the two sides of granite is called 'granitic pegmatite,' the matrix rock where mica is usually found. Mica the word comes from the Latin 'micare,' meaning 'to glitter.' Thankx for that photo!

For a little bit I couldn't remember the rest of that rhyme, and then when I did it seemed appropriate.
